    US Tax Lawyer Moodys Tax

“He wouldn’t hear of anybody’s paying taxes, though he was very patriotic.” – Charles Dickens, “Great Expectations”

When it comes to taxes, Douglas knows it’s all in the details. As a US Tax Lawyer, he specializes in navigating the complexities of US taxation for Canadian businesses and high-net-worth families. Whether structuring cross-border investments, guiding mergers and acquisitions, or resolving tax disputes, Douglas is committed to delivering effective tax strategies for his clients.

Douglas thrives on the relationships that come with tax planning, helping clients structure their financial futures with confidence and clarity. His approach is simple: tax strategy should be proactive, practical and tailored to the people it serves.

Douglas’ path to tax law started in Edmonton, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta. From there, he crossed the border himself—first for a Juris Doctor at Boston University, then for a Master of Laws in Taxation at New York University, where he contributed to the Tax Law Review.

Prior to joining Moodys Tax Law, Doug spent eight years as a tax practitioner in New York City, focusing on the US federal income tax aspects of complex business transactions. Doug’s US work experience includes time at a Big Four, Deloitte, and large commercial law firms, most recently Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Doug is licensed to practice law in both the US and Canada.

Beyond his work, Doug is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, and golfing. When he’s not out adventuring, you’ll find him walking his energetic Dalmatian or diving into a good history book.
